8 ways to get a more even skin tone – whatever your age

One of the most common skincare complaints from women of all ages is an uneven skin tone. Though it might not be possible to achieve a Disney Princess glow, there are many ways you can hide your skin’s imperfections and achieve the complexion of your dreams…

Cover it with makeup

Though perhaps not the advice you want to hear, one of the best ways to create a more even skin tone is to cover your imperfections with makeup. There are so many products on the market that can be used to transform the appearance of your face, from forgiving foundations to complementary concealers. Foundations are the best foundation (if you’ll pardon the pun) as they offer thick coverage that can even out the skin tone, whilst a green-tinted moisturiser can camouflage pimples and redness. Concealers, on the other hand, cover discolouration and blemishes, so experiment with different brands and see what works for you. However, be aware that makeup can cause skin irritation and imperfections, so choose products with natural ingredients and always remove your makeup before bed.

Use our anti-ageing device

If you’re looking for a way to even out your skin tone and don’t want to go under the knife, the Oralift anti-ageing device is an option to consider. Designed to help you turn back the clock, naturally, Oralift changes the natural freeway space between your teeth, which causes the muscles to react to a new resting length. Over time, this causes your facial muscles to require more oxygen, which then repairs capillaries which have become damaged due to the natural ageing process. Amongst the benefits reported by users is an improved complexion.

Take it easy on processed foods

We all love a greasy fry-up and a chocolate cake from time to time, but processed food could be the trigger that’s causing your flushes and uneven complexion. What’s more, some foods can speed up the ageing process, causing fine lines, wrinkles, and age spots before they’re due. Greasy foods, processed foods like fries, and dairy can cause blotching, whilst foods high in refined sugars can cause wrinkles. You should also avoid spicy foods, as this can increase redness, whilst alcohol can cause your face to flush, and indeed premature ageing.

Consider laser therapy

If your uneven skin tone is causing you to feel anxious and uncomfortable, you might want to take more drastic measures. Many aesthetic clinics offer skin laser treatments, which are designed to reduce the appearance of scars and age spots. When used by professionals, lasers can “flatten” scars and their redness. However, you should note that laser treatments can lead to hyperpigmentation, and the results aren’t permanent, so consider other options.

Binge on Vitamin C

For a truly natural approach to evening out your skin tone, increase your Vitamin C intake. The antioxidant is known to shield your body from free radical damage, which causes tissue damage and uneven skin tones. It’s possible to take a Vitamin C supplement, but you’ll likely get enough from a healthy diet. Stock up on oranges, bell peppers, strawberries, and kiwis.

Keep your skin hydrated

We all know hydration is vital, but the vast majority of us are “chronically dehydrated”. As well as upping your water intake (aim for at least two litres of water per day, more if you’re exercising), you should hydrate your skin by applying moisturiser. A good-quality moisturiser will soothe the skin, preventing against redness and dryness. Don’t forget that moisturiser can be used all over your body. Keeping your hands, arms, and neck well-hydrated will prevent and reduce age spots, fine lines, and wrinkles. There’s no point in focusing on your face if you’re going to ignore your neck. It’s one of the earliest telltale signs of ageing!

Adjust your skincare regime

Whether you’re suffering from discolouration, dark spots, redness, or blemishes, an even skin tone can be easily fixed with the right skincare products. Look for cleansers and creams that contain gentle exfoliation. Alpha hydroxy acids and beta hydroxy acids should be at the top of your list. Brightening ingredients such as vitamin C should also be utilised, allowing you to achieve that soft, glowing skin that you’ve been craving. Consider a glycolic acid toner to reduce the appearance of unsightly enlarged pores. A daily skin peel which can neutralise and smooth skin, and a pore exfoliating treatment to polish the skin, revealing a natural glow.

Chemical peels could be the solution

As we’ve just touched upon, chemical peels can be used to lift away dead skin, oils, and impurities. They even out your skin tone in the process. You can head to a beauty clinic for a professional peel, but there are at-home products that you can try. Each contains low doses of glycolic and salicylic acid. A word of warning, though. If you suffer from dry or sensitive skin, avoid at-home chemical peels. They can further dry and irritate your face. Always read the label before buying a product and consider a patch test for peace of mind.

Evening out your skin tone can take time, but with the techniques we’ve offered above, it’s perfectly possible. Let us know which of these worked for you over on Twitter @Oralift
