How to achieve a sharp jawline without surgery

How to achieve a sharp jawline without surgery

Over the past decade, we’ve seen a number of viral aesthetic trends on social media, from lip plumping from Kylie Jenner to contouring from Kim Kardashian. One recent trend that’s dominating the headlines is the sharp jawline, popularized by TikTok.

On the video-sharing platform, you’ll find hundreds of videos from beauty influencers, makeup artists, and celebs, who claim that you need to suck your tongue to achieve a sharper jawline and slimmer face. Although there’s nothing wrong with wanting a sharper jawline (more on achieving one for yourself below), experts are concerned that the methods behind the sharp jawline trend on TikTok (strange facial exercises and cosmetic surgery) are resulting in conditions such as jaw strain, temporomandibular joint (TMJ) and even dental damage.

Below, we’ve rounded up advice on achieving a sharp jawline without causing unnecessary damage to your body.

Exercise

Perhaps one of the best ways to achieve a sharp jawline is to lose weight, and working out regularly can help you do that. Not only does the gym help you unwind, release endorphins, and help you feel good, but in time, it will help you to lose weight on your face and accentuate your jawline.

We’re not talking about facial exercises here – although there are products that can artificially ‘work out’ your jawline, they can result in lasting damage, and so you should take a more natural approach. The results will take time, but they’ll be worth it.

Cut out the salt

Eating a healthy, balanced diet is another way to make you fitter and help you achieve a sharper jawline.

Indeed, stocking up on fruits, vegetables, and healthy snacks will stop you from reaching for the snack cupboard.

Foods high in sodium are not only bad for you and can lead to a rise in blood pressure and increase your risk of heart disease, but it increases your thirst levels and leads to water retention, which can make you bloated and puffy.

One of the most common areas is your face – in other words, too much salt causes chubby cheeks.

Drink lots of water

That being said, water isn’t the enemy. Keeping yourself well-hydrated is so important in the warmer summer months, and a body that’s properly hydrated will perform like a well-oiled machine.

Water is not only good for drawing out impurities in the skin and helping you achieve a naturally moisturised, glowing look, but it has a purifying effect on the body and can dilute the amount of sodium in your bloodstream, thus reducing bloating and puffiness.

Work that jaw

Although we don’t recommend the controversial workout methods from TikTok, working your jaw throughout the day can promote a sharper jawline over time. For example, rotating your jaw or chewing gum throughout the day could make a small but noticeable difference to the overall appearance of your face, but note that in time this can lead to sagging and wrinkles.

Sleep well

We all know that sleeping well is important for our bodies and our mental health, but did you know that it could make a difference to the way we look? Experts recommend at least six to eight hours of sleep per night, and if you’re well-rested, you’re less likely to have a puffy face or dark circles around the eyes.

We’ve also put together some strategies that can stop you from clenching your jaw on a night – follow those and you’ll achieve a sharp jawline in time.

Smile

Although you might be longing for a jawline like Keira Knightley’s or Timothée Chalamet’s, the best thing to do is to work with what you’ve got and flaunt it. Smiling not only illuminates your appearance and makes you feel good, but it serves as a workout for your facial muscles. Plus, smiling is great if you’re single or want to impress your other half. Indeed, in two experiments, scientists in Switzerland looked at the relationship between attractiveness and smiling. They discovered that the stronger the smile, the more attractive a face looked. Smile, be warm and welcoming, and good things will happen; sharp jawline or not!

Consider the Oralift device

Another way to naturally improve the appearance of your jawline over time is to use the Oralift anti-ageing device. Oralift is safer than ‘facial exercising devices’ on the market because it doesn’t work in the same way as exercise. Instead, it uses the ability of the facial muscles to adapt, a process that is crucial to the survival of the species.

It’s this process that triggers the rejuvenation and has so many more benefits than a facial muscle exercise device. You can read more on the differences between Oralift and FMEDs by clicking here.
